Planning a trip to Corfu in Greece for your next holiday and curious to know if there is Uber there?

My family visits Corfu every year, so we use every transport option to get around.

These adventures and speaking to our local friends have helped us learn the easiest ways to get around.

And to be honest, I rarely use it out there as the other transport options are great.

But it has its perks and may be the best option for you.

To help you get around during your trip, let’s jump in and look at the best ways to get around Corfu Island with and without using Uber!

The Best Ways To Get Around Corfu: Quick Overview

I know what it’s like to be in a hurry and not have time to read a whole article. So let’s get the basics covered quickly for you!

There is currently Uber in Corfu- but it isn’t usually the best way to get around.

Are there services like Uber or Lyft in Corfu?

Currently, Lyft or Bolt is not available in Corfu or many of the other Greek Islands like Rhodes- but Uber is!

Since April 2023 you have been able to use the app to get around Corfu.

I know sometimes it doesn’t have the best reputation (especially in certain parts of the UK) but Greece does it differently.

Throughout Greece and its Islands, normal taxi drivers are connected to Uber.

So when you are using the Uber app to arrange a ride, you are most likely being assigned a regular taxi rather than a private driver.

So before arranging your transport, you’ll just need to decide whether you would like to drive yourself around or if you’d like someone else to drive you.

🚗To explore the Island in the best way, book your car hire with Discover Cars

👉The Best Of Corfu Tour is a great option if you want to explore just for a day

🤩 For those who just want to reach their hotel and relax, I recommend booking your transfer with Maria’s Tourist Services

Is Uber safe in Corfu?

As a solo female, I have felt 100% safe using all the transport in Corfu, including Uber.

The service hasn’t rolled out throughout all of Greece and one reason for that is that the Greek laws surrounding it are so strict.

So you will not have a private driver pick you up.

However, always trust your instincts.

If something doesn’t feel right or your driver is trying to take you another route which is not agreed, get out at a safe location.

It’s also worth being aware that the Greek driving style is aggressive. So expect sharp turns, speeding and dangerous overtaking 😳

Some taxi services may try and take you a longer route to increase your price (this is rare in Corfu).

But that’s the great thing about Uber, your route and rate are already set and can be paid in advance!

How to use Uber in Greece including the Islands?

If you are an Uber newbie or rarely use it, this is the best way to use it when visiting Greece:

1. Setting Up the Uber App

  1. Download the Uber App:
    • Available on the App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android.
  2. Create an Account:
    • Open the app and sign up with your email, phone number, and payment information.
  3. Enable Location Services:
    • Ensure your phone’s location services are on so the app can find your current location.

☝️ My Top Tip: Download the app and set it up before you go on your trip. I needed to book a speedy Airport transfer from Cardiff and It took me FOREVER to sort

2. Check Uber Availability

As I mentioned Uber operates in certain parts of Greece, but its presence on smaller islands like Corfu can be limited. Use the Uber app to verify availability:

If Uber is available in your area of Corfu, follow these steps:

  • Open the Uber app.
  • Enter your location in Corfu.
  • Check if any drivers are available nearby.

3. Requesting a Ride

To request an Uber ride in Corfu:

  1. Open the Uber App:
    • Ensure you are connected to the internet.
  2. Set Pickup Location:
    • Enter your current location manually or use the GPS feature.
  3. Enter Destination:
    • Type in your destination in Corfu.
  4. Choose Your Ride:
    • Select the type of Uber service you prefer (e.g., UberX, UberBlack).
  5. Confirm Your Ride:
    • Review the fare estimate and confirm your ride request.
  6. Meet Your Driver:
    • The app will provide details about your driver and car. Wait at the designated pickup point.

How do you get around Corfu Without Uber?

There are a few different ways to get around Corfu without using Uber. Whether you are short on time or have a small budget, there are plenty of ways to travel around.

Here are the best ways to get around the Island without using ridesharing services:

Renting A Car:

The most popular option is to rent a car or moped scooter.

I think this is the best way to get around Corfu as you don’t have to rely on someone else.

It also saves you a lot of money on Airport transfers and taxis during your trip- it’s also really easy to do!

This is one of the best ways to keep costs low if you are travelling as a group.

The roads are easy to navigate and if you ever get lost (like I have) loads of friendly locals will help you along the way.

I also prefer getting around Corfu by car because there are loads of hidden gems I would never have seen without them.

Waiting for public transport is the bane of my life coming from South Wales so not having to wait for it is always a bonus for me. This is why hiring a car is epic if you want to explore the island on your terms!

🤩 For the best rates and great customer service, I highly recommend using Discover Cars.

I always use them wherever I’m renting a car on a trip because they have so many perks.

One thing I love is that they check all car options from international companies and local ones too so you will get the best deals every time!

🏆Corfu Explore Car Hire– is the Overall Best Option with fantastic reviews and 24-hour airport pick-up.

Bus:

Another option for travelling around Corfu is to use public transportation.

The buses on the island are known for their cleanliness and efficiency, and there are several routes which provide coverage across the entirety of the island.

You can even get to stunning beaches like Glyfada super easily!

Making use of bus services is an excellent way of exploring Corfu if you are looking to keep costs down.

However, if you are visiting in the summer, this can be hard work as you can be waiting a long time in the Mediterranean sun!

Also, the locals don’t like to queue. It is everyone for themselves so be prepared 😳

A single is around 2 Euros and you can get an all-day ticket for around 5.

This is the cheapest way to get around the Island and resorts you are staying in Corfu. Especially if you cannot drive.

Taxi:

Choosing a taxi to navigate Corfu proves to be one of the most convenient and efficient travel options!

With door-to-door service and experienced local drivers, you can’t go wrong.

You not only benefit from their in-depth knowledge of the area but also gain insights into the culture and recommendations for off-the-beaten-path attractions.

Taxis in Corfu also provide a stress-free travel experience without the hassle of public transportation schedules.

Boat:

To make the most of your trip to Corfu, I cannot recommend booking a boat trip and using this to get around to see the main sites!

With its crystalline waters and captivating coastline, Corfu’s beauty truly shines when seen from the sea.

Booking a boat trip not only allows you to explore hidden coves, secluded beaches, and charming fishing villages, but it also provides a tranquil and scenic journey.

It’s also a great way to avoid the crowds and visit destinations only available by boat!

How to get around Corfu without using a car

If you have decided you would rather have someone drive you around Corfu, there are taxis and private transfers you can call to arrange at any time.

However, the easiest way to arrange any transport in Corfu is to book it in advance. For those arriving on the Island by Ferry or Plane, there are lots of options if you don’t want to rent a car and drive.

So no matter your budget or needs, you will be able to get around Corfu with no issues at all!

😍 For the quickest and most comfortable transfer, I always recommend booking your transport in advance here with Maria’s Tourist Services.

Another alternative is to take the bus in Corfu, but keep in mind that they can get quite crowded during peak season so can be uncomfortable to use!

Using Public Transport in Corfu

As there until recently was no Uber service in Corfu, there had to be other transportation options available.

And one of the most budget-friendly options in Corfu is the public transport system.

Using the public transport system on the Island can be a great way to get around without spending a lot of money. The most popular way to travel is by bus.

The average bus ticket is around €2-€3 so is a great way to get around Corfu on a budget. And it is a way cheaper alternative to Uber or Lyft.

Not only are the buses very affordable, but they can take you to most places on the island. However, keep in mind that they can get really busy during the summer months.

Most towns and villages across Corfu have at least one bus stop which makes it really easy to get around without relying on taxis or Uber.

You can purchase your ticket on the bus but if you like to be organised like me, you can usually buy tickets at your hotel or local shop.

You can ask your hotel or the shop nearby if they sell local bus tickets, but there is usually a bus sign there.

However, depending on where you are staying in Corfu, the buses may not run regularly so taxis may be your best option.
