Are Buses Reliable In Corfu? 2026 Frequent User Review

Want to know how good Corfu public transport is?
I’m here to help! π
My family love Corfu, especially exploring different parts of it. One of the cheapest ways by far is using the bus service.
I think the buses are reliable, amazing value for money and super clean (they even have WI-FI).
However, it isn’t the quickest way to get around and your route may not be covered.
To help you decide if using Corfu buses is for you, I have created this guide. Here you will find my first-hand advice, knowledge and everything else you need to consider.

So, Are The Buses Reliable Throughout Corfu?
I have never had any problems.
Most bus stops have an electronic sign so you know EXACTLY when they are turning up.
And I noticed most buses turn up early and wait, especially in Corfu Town.
I have also never experienced any problems with them breaking down or the air-con or Wi-Fi not working.
The only thing is that in the summer months, some routes become way busier so the bus may be full before it reaches your stop.
And sometimes the bus will just drive past.
However, it is normally followed by another available bus.
The Pros And Cons Of Getting Around By Bus

Like anyway of getting around Corfu, they all have their pros and cons.
To help you out, these are the things I loved and disliked about using the bus service around the Island:
Advantages of using the bus in Corfu:
β Multiple ticket options are available
β Cheapest transport option
β Tickets are easy to buy
β Air-con & Wi-Fi
β A screen that shows you where the bus is stopping
β Never experienced major delays or cancellations
β More frequent services in the summer
Disadvantages of using Corfu bus services:
β You may need to get a few buses to reach your destination
β The bus doesn’t stop if it’s full
β Greeks don’t queue so getting on can be stressful
β You have to wait
β Hard to buy a ticket from the driver- have to buy from a local shop or machine in advance
Where Do Corfu Buses Go?
π¨ AVOID BUYING YOUR TICKET ON THE BUS, THEY WILL CHARGE YOU MORE
You will hear locals refer to the buses as “the blue bus” or ‘the green bus”.
The blue bus is provided by Corfu City Buses which goes to Corfu Town and surrounding areas like Benestis.
Then you have the green bus by KTEL (that are sometimes white). This service will connect you to Corfu town and the rest of the Island.
Here are the main places each service goes:
The bus service in Corfu is well-organized, providing extensive coverage across the island through two main types of services: Blue Buses and Green Buses.
- Blue Buses (City Buses):
- City Centre: The blue buses primarily operate within Corfu Town and its immediate suburbs.
- Suburban Areas: They extend to nearby suburbs such as Kanoni, Mandouki, Kontokali, and Potamos.
- Local Attractions: Popular tourist spots accessible by blue buses include the Corfu Old Town, the airport, and the New Port.
- Green Buses (Intercity Buses):
- Island-wide Coverage: Green buses cover longer distances, connecting Corfu Town with various towns, villages, and beaches across the island.
- Popular Destinations: Some notable destinations include:
- North: Kassiopi, Sidari, Acharavi, Roda
- South: Lefkimmi, Kavos, Moraitika, Messonghi
- West: Paleokastritsa, Glyfada, Agios Gordios, Ermones
- East: Benitses, Ipsos, Dassia, Barbati
- Tourist Attractions: The green buses also service popular tourist attractions such as Achilleion Palace, Canal d’Amour, and various scenic viewpoints.
β TOP TIP: IF YOU WANT TO BUY A TICKET ON THE GREEN BUS, IT’S CASH ONLY
Alternatives For Using Public Transport In Corfu :Quick Guide
I do like getting the bus. But I understand, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea!
Here I have summarised all the other options you have if you want faster and more private transfers.
How To Get Around Without The Bus:
π Hire A Car Or Scooter (My Top Option): DiscoverCars.Com is where I tend to get the best deals!
π Private Guide: The Best Of Corfu Tour is perfect to see the Island in a day
π Uber: This service is now available but it isn’t the most popular
π Taxi: Great for door-to-door service and reaching remote locations
π² Cycle: I wouldn’t recommend it as it gets super hot and the roads are dangerous in places
π€Ώ Boat: Amazing experience but isn’t suitable for daily transfers
The Most Popular Alternatives:
Even though the buses in Corfu are reliable, there are so many other options. But like I said, Ridesharring and cycling aren’t really viable.
Here are the top waus to get around if you don’t fancy using public transport:
Renting A Car:

This is the most popular alternative.
There are multiple spots to rent a car or scooter in Corfu so you can try the buses first and see if they work out.
But if you book any rental in advance, you save money!
I prefer to get around Corfu this way as you don’t have to wait for anyone else.
No waiting at bus stops or taxi ranks, you go wherever you want, wherever you want.
It’s also the best way to reach some of Corfu’s prettiest and safest beaches!
π€© I highly recommend using Discover Cars.
The thing I like most is they compare EVERY OPTION on the island, saving you money every time!
πCorfu Explore Car Hire– the top hire option with fantastic reviews and 24-hour airport pick-up.
Taxi:
Even though taxis tend to be more expensive than buses, the benefits of convenience, comfort, and flexibility often outweigh the cost.
Especially for those looking to make the most of their time!
Taxis are time-efficient, as they can take more direct routes and are not bound by fixed schedules.
They are also available 24/7, unlike buses that may have limited operating times, especially in the evening or night.
You will also find that taxis can reach remote or less accessible areas of Corfu that buses may not service.
One of the main perks is your airport transfers. Compared to the bus, they are more accommodating for passengers with a lot of luggage.
Boat:

I cannot recommend booking a boat to see the main sites enough!
I seriously love getting around this way π
It’s also a great way to avoid the hectic crowds and visit destinations only available by boat!
On my last trip, we paid β¬90 for 3 hours- so is great for families or bigger groups.
So I wouldn’t recommend using this as your regular transport but do it at least once.
Final Thoughts
So there we have it, Corfu buses from my first-hand experience.
I have never had a problem with using them. As long as you are prepared (buy your ticket in advance) and know your route, you should have no problems.
I’m not saying it’s perfect- every transport method has issues at times.
But for a cheap and easy way to get around, this ticks all the boxes!
